Why would I need a Veneer?

In today’s world, having a beautiful white smile has become so important as it implies health and youth. It enhances facial beauty and also has a direct impact on a person’s confidence. When you’re unsatisfied by the overall appearance of your smile or just need to correct the appearance of a single tooth, dental veneers might be the solution. The ‘Hollywood’ smile is often achieved through placing anywhere from 6-10 veneers depending on the width of a person’s smile. Most people have them on the upper arch but they can also be placed in the lower arch.

  • What is a Veneer?

    dental veneers

Dental veneers are a cosmetic procedure that can esthetically improve a smile by placing a very thin tooth-colored porcelain or a composite resin shell (componeer) over the natural tooth’s surface to correct uneven tooth alignment, chips, cracks, discoloration, or unwanted spacing. Usually it involves removal of a thin layer of enamel on the front portion of the tooth, which is then covered by a thin layer of porcelain or composite. Many times this procedure is performed without anesthetic, as it is painless.

Porcelain veneers are stronger than composite resin veneers (componeers), do not change color or stain, and are more esthetic. Even though porcelain veneers are more esthetic than composite veneers or componeers, they are also more expensive, are not usually covered by dental insurance, and need to be replaced if they chip. Composite veneers cost less than porcelain veneers, are coverered by most dental insurances, and are much easier to repair. Generally, porcelain veneers take at least 2 dental visits to apply and composite resin veneers can be done in 1 visit.

  • Am I a Candidate for Veneers?

In our clinic we first analyze your smile and decide if you are a candidate for veneers. The veneers definitely help cover some imperfections such as stained teeth, gaps between teeth, uneven shapes of the front teeth, etc … We highly recommend you book a consultation with us to determine if you are eligible for this procedure and at the same time we can answer your questions such as whether porcelain or a composite veneer is right for you. In addition, we can have a mock up study of your teeth so that you can have an idea of what your smile would look like before we even begin any work. A dental estimate of the cost is also advisable especially if you have dental insurance. This way you will be aware of what’s to come before any definitive treatment is performed.
